How Spinal Decompression Is Done?

Village Family Clinic - Spinal Decompression

One of our pain management service offerings here at Hackettstown's Village Family Clinic is spinal decompression. You may already know that spinal decompression is a soothing and non-surgical treatment option for reducing back pain. This chiropractic treatment is designed to address the underlying cause of the pain rather than just masking the symptoms. But how exactly is spinal decompression done?

The treatment is typically done on an adjustable table that is specifically designed for spinal decompression. The patient lies on their back and the table is slowly adjusted to stretch the spine. Some tables are motorized, which allows the chiropractor to control the speed and pressure of the stretch. The doctor can also adjust the settings on the table to target specific areas of the spine that may be causing the pain.

The patient typically lies on the table for 20-30 minutes at a time, although the exact amount of time will depend on the patient’s condition and the severity of their pain. During the session, the patient may feel a mild stretching sensation, but the treatment is non-invasive and painless.

Spinal decompression is often used to treat conditions such as herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, and facet syndrome. While it is not a cure-all for all types of back pain, it can provide relief from many of the symptoms associated with these conditions.

In addition to providing pain relief, spinal decompression can also help improve flexibility and range of motion in the spine. This can help to improve posture and reduce the risk of future injury.

Spinal decompression is typically done in a series of treatments, with each session lasting anywhere from 20-30 minutes. It is important to note that the full benefit of the treatment may not be seen until the entire course of treatments has been completed.
